Sixteen year old Mitch “The Mooch” Marino wants a go-kart real bad so he can beat his arch-enemy, the bragging Ziggy Zeigler, in a race on Devil’s Drag Strip. Having no one to buy him a kart, Mitch must find a way to overcome his lazy and selfish mooching habits in order to accomplish his goal.

The path to his goal is a long and sometimes painful one, partly because he is being raised by a single Mom who is barely making enough money to support them and partly because Ziggy keeps bugging him. Hector, Mooch's closest friend whom Mooch thinks of as an electronic genius, sticks up for him no matter what.
