SYNOPSIS Richard Paul Haesche |

Do you believe in dinosaurs? Of course you do. Doesn't everyone? They used to live back in the old days… before people got here. Some of them were real dangerous, too! Like the Tyrannosaurus Rex... the guy with the big mouth and sharp teeth. They were the guys who ate meat... and plenty of it! Dennis swears that one day a dinosaur followed him home. No one believes him, of course, because we all know that dinosaurs just don’t exist anymore. At least I don’t believe they do, do you? Dennis does. But maybe Dennis just has a very good imagination. Or could it be that maybe he’s a little looney? Or maybe we can just say he was only dreaming, right? Anyhow, Dennis and his little brother, Roscoe, cannot seem to get along and are always arguing and fighting with each other. Because Dennis is older than Roscoe, their Mom takes Roscoe's side and sends Dennis off for the summer to live on his Uncle Nick's farm in the country and that's where our story REALLY begins! Dennis tolerates his time on the farm and even gets to like it. Sooner or later, though, he gets bored and a little homesick, almost wishing he was home so he could argue with Roscoe again. Noticing how bored Dennis is, Uncle Nick begins to have Dennis do some chores around the farm, including shoveling manure from the cow stable and weeding his rhubarb garden. Such yucky shores make Dennis wish even more that he could go home. One Saturday his Aunt Agnes orders some groceries from the Farm Store. Because the stores delivery boy was out sick, she asks Dennis to go to the store on his bicycle to pick up the groceries. Because the store is at the top of a long, steep hill, poor Dennis has to dismount from the bicycle and walk up the hill pushing it. Then, on the way back, with groceries piled high in the bicycles's basket, the bike's chain breaks and the bicycle goes out of control and over a bank right into a pond where Dennis and the bike sink out of sight. He finally manages to swim to the surface, climb onto a big rock and sit there while he dries out in the sun. Without a bicycle and the groceries, he starts walking home, worried about how Aunt Agnes and Uncle Nick are going to punish him. As he begins to turn into the long driveway towards the farm, he hears an "urp, urp!" sound behind him. Turning around, what do you suppose Dennis sees??? That's right... a very young,vegetarian-eating dinosaur! Let's not even guess what happens next...let’s just read what’s inside and find out what happens when Dennis learns that, whether he likes it or not, he has “A PET DINOSAUR!” Click HERE to read a FREE CHAPTER PREVIEW |
