The spooky noises coming from Dismal Swamp are keeping townspeople terrified! The swamp’s reputation is amplified when people learn of young Tracy Adams traumatic experience while walking home alone on Dismal Swamp Road one stormy night. The absence of street lights increases her anxiety as she nears the swamp whose banks have overflowed and flooded the road from the heavy downpour. Suddenly her small flashlight fails. In panic, she screams and runs blindly along the pothole-filled street towards home! Suddenly she trips in one of the potholes and falls just as a humongous alligator slides out of the swamp and into the flooded road!

Rumors of Tracy’s experience are blown out of proportion as frightened residents, wanting to move, are unable to sell their homes. Police investigations by a short-handed police department have uncovered nothing. Unwilling to ignore the spreading panic, the Young Detective Squad conducts an investigation of their own. The challenges they face are raised to a new level of suspense and drama as they strive to solve "The Mystery of Dismal Swamp Island!"
